Olav Thon Group Acquires Journalistförbundet’s Historic Property in Central Stockholm
The Swedish Union of Journalists (Journalistförbundet) has announced the sale of its longstanding property Lagern 7, located on Vasagatan in central Stockholm. The buyer is the Norwegian real estate and hospitality group Olav Thon Gruppen, acting through its Swedish subsidiary, Thon Sverige AB.
“This sale is a strategic decision that strengthens the union’s financial stability and allows us to focus fully on our core mission and the needs of our members,” said Ulrika Hyllert, Chair of Journalistförbundet. “I am pleased with the outcome.”
The Lagern 7 property was originally built in 1886 and has served as part of the union’s operations since 1983.
Continued Expansion in Stockholm
Thon Sverige AB has steadily expanded its footprint in Stockholm over recent years. The acquisition of Lagern 7 represents another step in that strategy — and the company’s second property on Vasagatan.
“We see great potential in this building and are pleased to grow our portfolio in Stockholm — a city we strongly believe in,” said Mathias Svensson of Thon Property AB.
The Olav Thon Group is owned by the Olav Thon Foundation and is primarily active in real estate and hotel operations across Scandinavia. The handover of the property is scheduled for February 7, 2025, upon completion of the transaction.
