Swedish agricultural cooperative Lantmännen has increased its ownership in SimSuFoodS, acquiring a majority stake of just over 50 percent. The move deepens Lantmännen’s commitment to sustainable food innovation and strengthens domestic food security.

Founded in 2019, SimSuFoodS specializes in shelf-stable, plant-based dry mixes that transform into dishes such as patties, strips, casseroles, and falafel when combined with water, oil, and seasoning. The company aims to streamline the value chain from Swedish-grown crops to ready-to-eat meals — helping clients reduce both costs and climate impact.

“I’m proud to see Lantmännen expand its ownership and involvement,” said Andreas Gundberg, CEO of SimSuFoodS. “Together, we’re taking greater responsibility from farm to fork, building a more resilient Swedish food system while supporting our customers in reducing their environmental footprint and operational costs.”

SimSuFoodS primarily serves large-scale kitchens and public sector clients. The products are designed for efficiency — they require minimal storage space and offer extended shelf life, making them a strong fit for preparedness strategies and food security planning.

“This investment aligns with Lantmännen’s broader strategy to scale up plant-based solutions and reinforce Sweden’s food supply resilience,” said Lars-Gunnar Edh, Executive Vice President of Lantmännen’s Energy Sector. “We see continued strong demand for dry plant-based products, both in Sweden and across Europe. There’s major potential to grow this business in areas such as emergency food supply, ration packs, and humanitarian aid.”

SimSuFoodS operates from Lantmännen Biorefineries’ facility in Kimstad, just outside Norrköping, where it houses its production site and applications lab.
